How to Teach Children Dangers of Pornography

The presence of the Internet not only allows us to access information but also bring danger to access pornographic content.
The international research estimates that the number of children and adolescents who access pornographic content varies from 43 percent to 99 percent in the older age groups.
Exposure to pornography online usually begins at age 11 and will be more frequent with age.
Research shows that teens who access pornography online usually have an unrealistic idea of sexual activity and intercourse.
They tend to be more accepting of gender role stereotypes, and has a relaxed and permissive attitude toward sex.
However, on the other hand, they do not have a powerful understanding of the importance of the agreement, pleasure, health or safety in sexual intercourse.
Parents should be more open and willing to discuss with their children about pornography and its dangers. The arm also children about sex and reproductive education according to age.
Research shows that children who receive sex education from an early age are more likely to:
- Understand and accept the physical and emotional changes.
- Think positively about their bodies.
- Respect and accept individual differences.
- Feel good about yourself and gender.
- Ability to communicate sexual problems.
- Understand action is appropriate and inappropriate.
- They also often become victims of sexual abuse.
Although sex has become a normal thing for an adult, but it is important to explain this to children. Discuss values and norms within the family and society.
In addition, no less important is to give an explanation that everyone has their own way of expressing their sexuality that may conflict with the values, norms and beliefs held.
Children aged 7 or 8 years old do not understand very well about pornography. A great way to give an explanation of it is to understand the importance of the body that must be protected.
Need not be too detailed to provide insight, just say sex is an activity of adults who are married.
If they have a question about sex, should not be ignored. Answer with a brief, honest and open and use language that is appropriate to mention the parts of the body.
No harm if parents also monitor the use of electronic media and the internet to find out what they access. But make sure children know that you are ready to talk if anyone wants to be known.
Discussions about pornography and sex would be easier if the child is growing up and naturally they already have the interest to discuss it so that more open about sex and sexual identity in the media.
If found children are viewing pornographic content, do not immediately get angry. Talk and ask carefully what they see.
By the time a parent is able to respond to a child's curiosity about sex and pornography, they help teens to better understand the safety and the importance of their own sexual health.
